A serious list: the Proverbs of Being Me

It’s taken some time but I’ve learned some things in life. Some were hard lessons and some were easy lessons and most were lessons I could only learn through experience. Some are observations, some are rules. Periodically, I have to remind myself of these things.

] Money doesn’t buy happiness.

] Material things don’t buy happiness.

] The only way to insure constant praise is to be mediocre. The harshest criticism often goes to the best and for reasons which are often as conflicted as this sounds: some are jealous, some can only feel good about themselves if they tear someone down, and a very small percentage of those harsh critiques come from people who want to push the person to become more.

] Fear has never motivated anyone to do anything constructive.

] Every single person out there can teach you something, you just have to listen.

] Everyone plays a role designed to hide the person they are on the inside.

] Emotion lacks purity.

] The universe is filled with people who have never left that stage of psychological development where the world revolves around them. They expect you to prove yourself to them over and over again and yet they never feel the need to reciprocate.

] The most arrogant people are often the ones with the lowest self esteem.

] People who are unhappy with themselves often seek to lower the self esteem of others.

] You’ll never find what you’re looking for, but you’ll always get what you deserve.

] If you’re looking for what you deserve, you will never see it and it will pass you by.

] You can’t make people behave the way you think it appropriate. People cannot be controlled. Trying to control people will only make you unhappy.

] Anger is over rated. Anger never made anyone else perform better or faster or to your liking.

] No one deserves to be used. No one can use you if you don’t let them.

] Everyone has a struggle. Don’t wallow in yours.

] If you throw a life preserver to someone who is drowning, sometimes they think that’s not enough, they think you should have jumped in and put the life preserver over their head and dragged them out of the water onto the warm sand, and then done some breathing for them.

] Self centered people will dictate how you help them while they sit on their couches and complain about how no one will help them.

] The people you help the most are often the ones who get most angry with you for not helping more.

] Nothing is without the possibility of humor. Nothing.

] People will hate you for your laughter. Pity them.

] People who tell you how religious they are end up having the most to confess.

] There is no point telling someone they are stupid, more often than not, they are too stupid to understand what you are saying to them.

] People are different. We are not all the same. To say we are all the same is insulting and oppressive. We should strive to be accepting and respectful of our differences instead of trying to be the same.

] People are worse than animals. People are capable of inflicting unimaginable horrors upon each other. Never trust a predator. Predators can laugh with you before they rip out your heart.

] No one gets mad about honest curiosity. Be curious about everything. Ask lots of questions. Feed your brain daily.

] Don’t be afraid to ask.

] The same things don’t make everyone happy.

] You can be more alone with someone than you can ever be while you’re by yourself.

] Don’t judge yourself by other people’s standards unless they are living up to yours.

] You are a warrior. Your code is your own. Your only obligations in life are to support yourself, to not be a burden to society, and to not damage others.

] Do not believe the lies others say about you.

] There are a large number of people who believe their opinions are more important than yours and they demand you respect them while stomp on yours. Do not be friends with these people; they will suck you dry.

] Live with your decisions. Accept your failures. Suffer the consequences of your mistakes.

] Savor simple joys like a child.

] Don’t be afraid to: fail, laugh, love, be yourself

] Accept quirks in peoples’ personalities but never trust someone who purposely hurts someone else to their own advantage.

] do the right thing even when it hurts

] learn what the right thing is, don’t just assume you know or that what someone else is telling you is true

] some people not only willfully live in ignorance, but they wallow around in it like squealing pigs mixing up mud with their own piss and shit…these people deserve no sympathy

] keep laughing

] You can’t take the choices your friends make personally. You just have to be around to pick up the pieces.

] never forgive someone who goes out of their way to hurt you or someone you care about.

] If someone lies to someone they claim to love, there is nothing to stop them from lying to you.

] If someone believes what they read on the internet, they deserve to be lied to. Feel obligated to help them learn this lesson the hard way.
